Welcome to The Cinema School
Film & Cinema Studies
In addition to a full academic schedule, we offer four years of in-depth film study. Filmmaking helps all students develop the creative, collaborative, and organizational skills needed to excel in many fields. Students learn about the art of filmmaking from teachers devoted to the craft and techniques for visual storytelling, with concentration in:
- Photography (9th Grade)
- Non-Dialogue Film (10th Grade)
- Short Film Screenwriting (11th Grade)
- Sound Narrative Film (12th Grade)
Strong Academics
All students are provided with a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that is rooted in the liberal arts tradition with an emphasis on creative activity. AP and advanced courses are offered in multiple subjects. Students that are eligible are able to work towards an Advanced Regents Diploma. Qualifying students are able to apply for free College Now courses through Lehman College. After-school tutoring is provided on a consistent weekly basis for additional academic support by our teachers.
Supportive Learning Environment
All students receive personal attention and support to achieve their goals. The Cinema School prepares them to achieve success in college and beyond in any future profession
Year-round Student Support Services include:
- School Counselor/Social Worker assigned to support each student throughout their high school career.
- Monthly classroom presentations and advisory lessons covering a variety of topics.
- Peer Mentor Support Program offering peer-to-peer mentorship for 9th grade students from dedicated & trained 12th grade mentors.
- Team of social work interns providing individualized counseling support.
- In-class post-secondary guidance and support with college applications, financial aid, and life skills for all students before graduation.

Our school features dedicated spaces designed to support students throughout each stage of their filmmaking education. The Computer Lab, primarily used by 9th- and 10th-grade students, provides the technology needed for editing, digital media, and introductory production work. The Media Production Room (MPR), primarily used by 11th- and 12th-grade students, offers an advanced space for upper-level film and media projects. Our Production Office houses and manages the cameras, lighting, audio equipment, and other production tools used by students.
In addition to our film facilities, the school includes three private spaces dedicated to student support, providing students with quiet and confidential areas to receive guidance and assistance.
